Heads of IQOXE firm accused of not complying with security measures and violating workers' rights
Prosecutors have asked for 11-year prison sentences for each of the three former directors of the chemical company IQOXE for the fatal explosion on January 14, 2020, which caused the death of two workers and a resident of the Torreforta neighborhood.
The highest penalty request is six years in prison for reckless homicide, plus an additional three years for the alleged crime of failing to meet security regulation, and two more years for violating the rights of workers.
In the indictment, which the Catalan News Agency has seen, authorities also request a fine of €900,000 against the company for damages and inadequate security conditions.
The Tarragona City Council, standing as private prosecutors in the case, asked for slightly lower jail terms for the directors, and a fine of €9 million for the explosion.
