Private-hire vehicle drivers protest against proposed new regulation
Cab drivers say up to 3,000 jobs at risk with new law
Private-hire vehicle drivers are protesting this Tuesday in Barcelona to denounce the new transport law that the Catalan government is preparing.
Demonstrating cab drivers say the new proposed regulation puts 3,000 jobs at risk.
Nearly a hundred vehicles took part in a slow march that began on Carrer Aragó in the center of Barcelona, bound for the Department of Territory government office. Three of the four lanes of traffic were blocked for the duration of the protest.
The sector demands a moratorium that allows them to continue working in the city and for the restrictions to be removed.
"We do not understand the new rule, it is illogical since the sector works, is in demand, and provides a service," José Maria Cazallas, secretary of the Free Trade Union, said to the Catalan News Agency.
