Police confiscate 270 weapons across Catalonia since last Thursday
800 police teams deployed as part of 'Daga Plan' to strengthen protocols against carrying weapons in public
Police have confiscated 272 bladed weapons and 64 dangerous objects from the street since Thursday in more than 800 police units deployed as part of 'Daga Plan' to strengthen protocols against carrying knives in public.
The Mossos d'Esquadra and the local police have participated in these checks with the collaboration of security guards and the National Police.
A total of 837 police teams were deployed and among the weapons withdrawn are knives, razors of various types and sizes, machetes, daggers, and cutlasses.
As for the dangerous implements, baseball bats, defense spray, iron bars, wooden poles, a stun gun and knuckledusters were taken by police.
In Barcelona, 107 bladed weapons were confiscated, with another 75 in the metropolitan areas.
Officers went to specific areas to increase surveillance based on police information, criminal maps, criminal incidence or because the areas required increased security, such as nightlife spaces or where large crowds of people gathered.
Detection controls were intensified on public transport, commercial areas and areas outside bars or nightclubs, with priority given to areas with a concentration of bars or clubs, and during 'festas majors'.
The purpose of the checks was to detect these weapons and prevent their use in conflicts.
