Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, in collaboration with local police in Begur, have arrested a man who had 230 marijuana plants in a two-story house in a residential area of the Costa Brava town.

Officers including around 15 riot police entered and searched the property at around 6:45 am on Wednesday morning.

Inside, police discovered a man guarding two rooms set up with all the necessary equipment to grow marijuana, but no plants, as they had been harvested in recent days.

The Mossos then discovered a garage on the ground floor filled with 230 plants over one meter tall.

LED lamps, extractors to reduce the strong smell of marijuana, fans, and fertilizers were all discovered, as well as an illegal electricity supply

It is suspected that the arrested individual – who produced no ID and could not speak Catalan or Spanish – was in charge of guarding the operation.

The arrested individual is being investigated for a public health offense and will be brought before the court of Bisbal d'Empordà in the coming hours.
