Travelers using the Rodalies R4 commuter train service on Monday morning had to be patient as disruptions to the service began due to construction work.

From Monday until August 13, there will be no trains between Castellbisbal and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia stations, extending to Molins de Rei from the August 13 to 17.

Commuters will have a bus alternative at their disposal during the improvement works.

While some commuters were grateful for the bus option, many have complained about the difficulties of getting to work.

"Work [on the line] is needed, but in the end, it always affects the same people," commuter Manuel said.

Overall, travelers understood the situation but complained that their trips increased by 40 minutes on average.

"Buses take more or less the same time as the train foes, but between the transport changes and the waiting time, I will get to work very late," David told the Catalan News Agency (ACN) while stepping on a bus heading to Martorell.

"We have been aware of the disruption and the bus alternative for some days, and it seems it is working fine, but in the end, the work will heavily impact our day-to-day routine, and we will need to leave our home earlier to get to work and arrive later," Jesus said.

The construction works will see the Iberian gauge tracks changed to the standard European gauge, allowing connections from France to Castellbisbal and the other municipalities of Vila-Seca, Sant Vicenç de Calders, and Martorell.
