The list of the world's 2% most influential researchers between 2023 and 2024 includes more than 850 investigators based in Catalonia.

Among them are 175 from the University of Barcelona, 91 from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with 85 researchers.

Stanford University, the organization behind the 'Ranking of the World's Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientists,' also includes members from the Hospital Clínic, the Pompeu Fabra University, the Rovira i Virgili University, the University of Girona, and the University of Lleida.

The ranking includes all those scientists worldwide who have had a greater impact on their work regarding the number of citations to their papers. The list was compiled by John P.A. Ioannidis, a professor at the Stanford University Department of Medicine; and published by Elsevier in September.

The publicly available database of top-cited scientists provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers with different authorships, and a composite indicator.

Researchers are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
