Over 13,400 Ukrainian refugees resettled in Catalonia
Government launches new website for asylum-seekers and volunteers
13,454 Ukrainian refugees have already been resettled in Catalonia since February 24, when the Russian invasion of their country began – for reference, before the war, there were only around 25,000 residents from Ukraine in the territory.
Of these, Catalan government spokesperson Patrícia Plaja explained in a press conference on Tuesday, 1,710 are children who have been enrolled in schools.
There are also 197 minors who have been placed in group homes across Catalonia.
Many more refugees have traveled through Catalonia, including Barcelona's Sants train station, en route to other destinations. Last week this figure was at some 14,000 people, though this is now likely to be far higher.
New website for refugees and volunteers
In addition to this, the Catalan government has launched a website with information in Ukrainian, Catalan, Spanish, and English for asylum-seekers as well as volunteers who would like to help them.
The site provides guidance on things such as accommodation, psychological help, and living allowances for refugees as well as information on where to send financial assistance, how to foster children or families, or how to employ these people who have just arrived.
A hotline has been set up to answer questions regarding the war – 900 500 912 or +34 93 273 46 00 from abroad – which also provides assistance in Ukrainian.
