Other building adjacent to collapsed Badalona apartment block evacuated after cracks appear
Last week, 20 homes were evacuated, and council asked for technical inspection of 440 nearby homes
Two weeks on from the fatal building collapse that claimed the lives of three people, further evacuations are needed in Badalona.
Last week, 20 homes in a building adjacent to the one that collapsed were evacuated after a crack appeared in one of the homes.
On Tuesday, a crack was found in the other adjacent building, prompting the evacuation of more homes.
Number 9 of Canigó street was where the tragedy took place, while number 7 was evacuated last week, and now number 11 has had to be cleared for safety precautions.
Residents of the first building evacuated will not be able to return to their homes until work is done to strengthen the roof, a situation that is likely to be the case also for the newly evacuated building. The mayor explained that the reinforcement works needed are not of great technical complexity, so he believes that they will not take long. In the meantime, the city council has offered accommodation to the twenty affected families, but most of them have chosen to stay with relatives or friends.
