Only 25% of victims of gender-based violence in Catalonia filed a complaint in 2022

Only one in four fatal victims of gender-based violence in Catalonia in 2022 had previously filed a complaint against their aggressor, according to the Observatory Against Domestic and Gender Violence.
The feminicide rate in Catalonia last year was 2.4 women aged over 15 per million. It is just below the Spanish average (3.6) and represents a decrease of almost six tenths when looking at the evolution between 2003 and 2022 (2.99).
In Spain, there was a fatal victim of gender-based violence every 7.5 days in 2022, a total of 49 women murdered by their partners or ex-partners.
Four out of ten murdered women had previously filed a complaint, and 75.5% were still living with the aggressor at the time of the crime.
