This week has seen a trend of pets being left alone on balconies as their owners abandon them to go on holidays.

So far this week, three cases across Catalonia have been reported.

Thankfully, emergency services were able to intervene in two of the cases and save the animal, but in one case, a dog died.

Girona police have reported the owner of the dog that died after jumping off a balcony due to the heat.

According to 'Diari de Girona,' the dog was about six months old and had been on the terrace all day without shade and tied with a rope for days.

The events happened on Monday when several neighbors called the municipal police after seeing the dog hanging from the balcony after jumping despite being tied with a lead.

The neighbors say that they had already called on other occasions in recent days because they heard the dog crying and screaming and warned that it was unattended.

The owner had gone on vacation and was asking an acquaintance to look after him while he was away, who took the dog for a walk three times a day and gave him water and food. The rest of the day, however, was spent on the terrace without any shade.

Animals saved

Two other similar stories took place this week in Terrassa and the Barcelona neighborhood of Nou Barris.

In both cases, the dogs were left alone on balconies without food or water for days during the heatwave while the owners were away.

In both cases, emergency services acted to save the animals.

The owner of the dogs have been reported for serious violations of animal abuse.
