New T-usual and T-jove fares to take effect on February 10
T-usual will increase from €22 to €35.20 and T-jove from €44 to €70.40
The new fares for the subsidized T-usual and T-jove tickets will come into effect on February 10.
The price of the T-usual will rise from €22 to €35.20 for Zone 1, and the T-jove will increase from €44 to €70.40.
T-usual prices for other zones will range from €47.70 for Zone 2 to €100 for Zone 6.
Both the T-usual and T-jove tickets can be used on Barcelona's metro, bus, train and trams – the T-usual grants an unlimited number of journeys in one month, while the T-jove is a quarterly ticket for under 30s covering all zones.
Prices are set to rise after the Spanish Congress voted down the government's omnibus decree on Wednesday, meaning the Spanish treasury will no longer contribute its subsidy of 30%, in place since 2022.
Barcelona's Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), held an extraordinary board meeting on Friday morning to approve the new fares, which will still include a 20% subsidy provided by the consortium, made up of the Catalan government, Barcelona City Council, and other local councils.
The new fares will be in place until June 30.
Tickets which were not subsidized – T-casual, T-familiar, T-grup, and T-dia – will remain at their current cost.
There will be a period of a few weeks between the approval of the new fares and their implementation on February 10, to allow time to update ticket machines and software.
This is similar to the recent 3% increase on new public transport fares across all ATM services, which were announced on December 27 but did not take effect until January 15.
Expiration
Tickets with 2024 prices bought before January 15 will expire on February 28 and on April 30 for those quarterly tickets.
Meanwhile, those subsidized tickets bought between January 15 and February 9 will expire on March 16, and those quarterly tickets on May 16.
