New freefall ride at Tibidabo amusement park opens to the public
52-meter high drop tower offers 360º of Barcelona from Collserola hills
Merlí, the long-awaited new addition to the Tibidabo theme park has finally opened up to the public this Saturday.
The new freefall ride, which stretches 52 meters in height, offers unparalleled 360º views of Barcelona before experiencing the exhilarating drop.
The top of the drop tower stands 500 meters above sea level and offers a unique viewpoint of the city from the Collserola hills, where the amusement park is located.
The first run of the ride, presented this Saturday morning, was experienced by 24 members of Tibidabo's Club that were selected, as well as Barcelona's city mayor, Jaume Collboni.
During the event, Jaume Collboni said that "the city is really lucky to have this public amusement park that aims to keep improving for Barcelona and its residents." He confessed he was "a bit nervous" before riding, but he enjoyed the views of the city and the freefall, and decided to go on the ride twice.
During the event, the pastry maker Escribà uncovered a cake themed for the new ride and offered to the TibuClub's members.
The name of the drop tower comes from a competition held between the workers of BSM, the managing company of the Tibidabo amusement park, and is inspired by the theme and design of the attraction, which simulates a magic wand topped with a star.
Merlí is the main addition to Tibidabo for 2024, but other experiences and activities have also been added to the theme park's offer to the public.
The "666 Space" is a new terror experience where attendees have the opportunity to meet the characters of Hotel 666, one of the most famous rides.
The park also offers new creative spaces for children as well as new puppet shows and the Laser Show during the night.
