Minors treated for screen addiction up by 15% in 2023 

Spott Center has treated 207 screen-addicted youngsters in the past 8 years

A report by Spott, the center by Barcelona's regional government to prevent and attend people with addiction, shows that the cases of screen addiction in minors increased by 15.1% in 2023. 

The center has attended an average of 25 minors every year with a screen addiction since it was first created in 2016.  

That is a total of 207 minors with a screen addiction that have been attended in the past eight years.  

The main profile in 75% of the cases are 15-year-old boys who mainly abuse videogames. The other 25% are 14-year-old girls who are addicted to social media. 

In addition, 75% of the youth attended suffer some kind of psychiatric disorder such as autism, ADHD, obsessive disorder, anxiety or depression, as well as presenting difficulties in school performance. 

According to Barcelona's regional government, the cases 

If the other decentralized Spott centers in all of Barcelona's region are taken into account, screen addiction cases accounted for 33% of the youth attended.
