Metro and Rodalies chaos and traffic jams on rainy Barcelona Monday morning
L5 line disrupted between Sagrada Família and Sagrera stations, while car accident blocks Ronda de Dalt road
Monday morning after a long weekend and a rainy day has led to massive chaos in both Barcelona's metro and Rodalies commuter train service. Meanwhile, the AP7 highway and other major roads experienced traffic jams, including a deadly car accident on the Catalan capital's Ronda de Dalt road.
Barcelona's L5 metro line was temporarily closed between La Sagrera and Sagrada Família stations due to an incident. Some small pieces of the ceiling fell and technicians are currently checking the situation.
Alternative routes are the V27 bus line or changing trains from the L5 to the L4 in Verdaguer and Maragall stations.
Rodalies: electricity issue
An incident with the electricity system in La Llagosta, just north of Barcelona, and a problem in the electricity system in the southern Garraf station saw delays in the R2 Rodalies commuter train network.
The Llagosta issue with the overhead line took place around 7 am, while the one in Garraf began shortly after at 7:40 am. Both issues affected the network with delays of up to 40 minutes.
A train breakdown between Barcelona-Sants train station and L'Hospitalet also caused delays on the R1, R3, and the R4 lines. Some users arrived up to 25 minutes later than expected.
The R3 is also affected by construction works between the municipalities of Figaró and Mollet, making it difficult for those living in cities such as Vic to commute to Barcelona using Rodalies.
Deadly car accident
One person died early Monday morning in a collision between two cars on Barcelona's Ronda de Dalt road on the kilometer 9.5, in the Gràcia neighborhood.
The accident forced a road closure until 8 am, after authorities registered around 7 kilometers of traffic jams.
A car driving in the opposite direction crashed with a second one and caused the accident. The first driver did not suffer any major injuries and was transferred to a hospital, while the one driving on the right side of the road lost their life.
In 2023 so far, there have been 18 deaths due to car accidents in Barcelona.
Meanwhile, on the AP7 highway, there have also been several traffic jams during the first hours of the day. At around 10 am, there were 22 kilometers of traffic jams on the way to the southern city of Tarragona.
