The Catalan government has extended the mandatory use of face masks in medical centers for another week, as first reported by Betevé TV and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN).

Sources from the Health Department assured that they decided to extend the measure despite the fact that the "first peak of the flu season" has already passed, because they want to see how the situation develops.

The measure was introduced on January 9 following a surge in respiratory infections in Catalonia. It was to last only 15 days and could be renewed beyond the extension announced today if infections continue to rise.

The regulation is in force for citizens over six years of age and apply to primary, intermediate and mental health care centers as well as hospitals.

The measure extends to workers, visitors, and patients, with the exception of people who are admitted when they are in their room.
