Loggerhead sea turtle nest spotted on Tarragona beach
Authorities put out call for volunteers to keep watch over it until eggs hatch
A loggerhead sea turtle nest with around 100 eggs has been discovered on Tarragona's Miracle beach.
Authorities cordoned off the nest to keep it safe from beachgoers and have also put out a call for volunteers to keep watch over it in shifts until the eggs hatch in 50 to 80 days.
Those who are interested can call the local council's environmental services at 977 296 222 or write to mediambient@tarragona.cat.

Loggerhead sea turtles, which are considered a vulnerable species worldwide, have only begun nesting in the northern Mediterranean in recent years — including, for the first time ever, Barcelona last summer— as climate change and rising sea temperatures have forced them to search for cooler waters.
