Lifeless body found on beach is six-month girl, forensic study concludes
Roda de Berà mayor said body was of Mediterranean migrant
The body found on Tuesday in Roda de Berà beach, in southern Catalonia, would be of a six-month-old girl, police state after forensic study.
Pere Virgili, the town's mayor, told the media on Tuesday that the main hypothesis they were working on at that moment was that the body "could possibly belong to a migrant child who perished in the Mediterranean."
"The child was wearing pants and a long-sleeved jacket, which does not suggest it was dressed for the beach," the mayor added.
The body was also thought to belong to a 2- to 4-year-old child and was found decapitated and in an advanced stage of decomposition.
The body was removed around 11 am on Tuesday, with a Vendrell court opening an inquiry into the matter, as the Spanish Guardia Civil take on the investigation.
