Libraries in Barcelona collect 77 tonnes of products for people affected by Valencia floods
Joint initiative between city council and Food Bank lasted five days
Barcelona residents have come together to help those affected by the Valencia floods in many different initiatives. One, led by the city council and the Food Bank, saw 77 tonnes of basic products donated across 14 libraries in just five days.
On November 4, 14 culture centers opened their doors across ten city districts to large boxes for people to donate food.
In just one day, authorities collected eight tonnes of basic products such as cans, milk, water, child food, and feminine hygiene products.
Barcelona's Food Bank will now store all the donations and will send them to the Valencian Food Bank depending on their priorities and how the emergency situation evolves.
Apart from these collection points, financial contributions can be made via bank transfer to the Banc dels Aliments in Valencia. The account number is:
ES86 2100 2806 6402 0009 8998
You may also contribute via Bizum using the number 38400 with the memo "donation."
Last week, the president of the Banc dels Aliments, Lluís Fatjó-Vilas, also revealed that "an important part" of the Gran Recapte initiative, the organization's annual food drive, will also be sent to Valencia.
The Gran Recapte will take place on Friday 22 and Saturday 23.
