Left-wing youth group vandalizes Gerard Piqué's holiday home over housing crisis
Pro-independence organization Arran blames "rich people from Barcelona" for lack of affordable homes in Pyrenees
A left-wing pro-independence youth organization has vandalized a holiday home in the Pyrenees allegedly belonging to footballer Gerard Piqué.
The group, Arran, posted a video on social media on Sunday night showing an individual wearing a balaclava on the former Barça star's property, spraying graffiti saying: "Fora pijos," meaning posh or rich people out.
In the video, Arran accused second home owners like Piqué of helping to cause the housing crisis in the Catalan Pyrenees.
"Are you sick of having to leave to live elsewhere because you can't afford a decent home in Cerdanya?" says the video posted on X, formerly Twitter.
"While you have to leave Cerdanya because you can't pay the rent, 64% of housing is second and third homes, and they are used for an average of 14 days a year."
"We're going on the offensive against the monoculture of tourism that is suffocating the Pyrenees, against the rich, rentiers and speculators who make our lives a misery," the accompanying message reads.
The video criticizes "posh people from Barcelona" who come to the mountains to ski, play golf and show off their luxury homes on Instagram, blaming them for the fact that locals have to "work 14 hours a day" serving drinks "for minimum wage."
"Shitty, rich people, we are not your decoration," the message concludes.
