House prices in Catalonia increase 29% in ten years
Average price of 80 square meter home from €172,500 to €222,900 in a decade
House prices in Catalonia have increased by 29% in the last decade, according to a report by real estate agency Fotocasa.
In 2014, the average price of an 80 square meter apartment was €172,500; now it has increased by €50,000 to €222,900.
However, prices have not yet reached those of 2009, when the housing market crashed, and were still 18% more expensive than today.
By region, prices rose 46% in Girona, 43% in Barcelona, 13% in Lleida and 9% in Tarragona.
Balearic Islands prices up 109%
In Spain, the Balearic Islands is the Autonomous Community with the highest increase, with prices climbing 109% in the last decade.
Previously, an 80 square meter apartment in the Mediterranean region would cost €147,000, with now costing more than €307,000.
Other autonomous communities with large increases are the Canary Islands, up 78%, and Madrid, up 68%.
