Emergency services have issued the 'Inuncat' alert to warn of floods risk as heavy showers and storms are expected throughout Catalonia on Thursday afternoon.

The Catalan government urges people to keep a close eye on the forecast and stay indoors until the heavy rain has passed, as well as to avoid rivers and gorges.

Several beaches in Catalonia have raised the red flag to warn swimmers of dangerous coastal storms.

Forecasts show the heavy rain could drop water volumes of up to 40 liters per square meter in half an hour.
