Heatwave could push temperatures above 40ºC in central and western Catalonia
Authorities warn of scorching weather until at least Wednesday
Catalonia is bracing for the first heatwave of the season. Set to begin on Monday and last until at least Wednesday if not the end of the week, authorities warn temperatures could near or even surpass 40ºC in central and western Catalonia – a full 8ºC to 10ºC warmer than normal for this time of the year.

While the heatwave is expected to begin on Monday, temperatures are already exceptionally high across Catalonia, hitting 38.9ºC at the Lleida-la Femosa weather station on Sunday.

Residents in affected areas are advised to keep themselves – and their pets – as hydrated as possible and to avoid going out at peak heat hours.
Children, people with chronic illnesses, and the elderly are the most at-risk population groups. People with relatives over the age of 75 who live alone are advised to check in on them regularly.
