Health authorities agree to remove face mask obligation in hospitals and pharmacies
Measure still needs final approval of Council of Ministers before masks become recommendations only
Health authorities across Spain have agreed to remove the obligation to wear face masks in hospitals and pharmacies across the country.
The measure is the last remaining in force as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The measure needs the final approval of the Spanish Council of Ministers before the obligation is officially downgraded to a recommendation.
Spain's ministry of health and authorities from the various autonomous communities made the decision on Friday afternoon.
Health minister for Spain, José Manuel Miñones, said that the withdrawal of the measure could be either permanent or staggered.
The decision taken by the Interterritorial Health Council comes four and a half months after the mandatory use of masks on public transport was removed.
