The Catalan foreign ministry is to launch a new body that links the government with Catalan communities abroad.

The Council of Catalonia Abroad "will be a large body representing Catalans around the world," according to the foreign minister Bernat Solé.

In an interview with online magazine 'exterior.cat', Solé explained he hope the new organization would be up and running by the end of this year, or in early 2021.

"This Council must represent, in all its magnitude, in all its breadth, everything that the Catalan name can carry around the world," the minister said.

The move comes in the same week that the government approved new delegations to Australia, Japan, and Senegal, with offices in Sydney, Tokyo, and Dakar respectively.
