Glovo in line for €30k fine for asking personal questions of prospective workers
Delivery company questionnaires ask about sexual orientation, gender identity, and ethnicity
The Labor Inspectorate proposes a fine of €30,001 for the delivery company Glovo for asking personal questions in the jobseeking process.
The company requires information on sexual orientation, gender identity, and ethnicity in job offer questionnaires. The labor authority considers this to be a “very serious” violation of employment discrimination.
The proposed fine stems from an investigation into Glovo’s hiring methods that began last October. Glovo says it has not yet received notification of the proposed penalty, but assures that the survey is “totally voluntary, anonymous, and has no effect on the selection process.”
As one example, the questionnaire that still appears in job postings on the website asks, which of the options “best” describes the respondent's gender identity, with the following answers: “I prefer not to answer,” “Queer/gender fluid,” “male,” “non-binary,” “female,” or “I identify in another way (please specify).”
The company previously stated “this demographic survey helps us understand our portfolio and ensure that all candidates have equal opportunities throughout the hiring process.”
