Catalonia's free menstrual products initiative benefits 225,000 people in ten days
Groundbreaking campaign provides menstrual cups, cloth pads and absorbent underwear
The initiative to distribute free reusable menstrual products in pharmacies throughout Catalonia, launched in early March, has already reached 225,000 women.
During the first ten days of the campaign, Catalonia distributed approximately 22,000 menstrual products per day, including menstrual cups, cloth pads, and absorbent underwear, across the territory.
The Catalan government expects distribution to continue to grow in the coming days, as nearly 415,000 users have downloaded the QR code to access the products.
The campaign, called 'My Period, My Rules,' is being led by the Catalan Equality Ministry, which says it is the first of its kind in the world.
Georgina Oliva, Secretary General of the Equality Ministry, celebrated this milestone and stressed the importance of breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation and enabling open conversations between women and men.
"This initiative has been a resounding success," said Oliva, stressing the importance of not only distributing free menstrual products but also providing counseling and support through pharmacies.
The products can be picked up at any pharmacy in Catalonia by scanning a QR code found in the 'La Meva Salut' app.
