Four dead after two ultralight aircraft crash near Barcelona
Firefighters intervene to fight blazes of plane in wooded area in Moià, 50km north of Catalan capital
Two ultralight aircraft crashed, causing four deads in Moià, 50 kilometers north-inland of Barcelona, as Catalan News Agency (ACN) confirmed on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities first reported about one plane crashing, killing two people, after a testimony warned emergency services at 10:44 am.
Both planes crashed at the same time, and one of them was engulfed in fire, starting a wildfire in the wooded area of Fàbrega and Pla de Boix flat area. Firefighters had to intervene to stop the blazes.
Farmer Joan, from Fàbrega farmhouse, told ACN that he saw one of the ultralight aircraft falling from the sky in flames.
"We went there, Mossos d'Esquadra, the ambulance, and firefighters followed us. There was a column of smoke, and all the area went on fire," he said.
