Former party head Oriol Pujol begins jail term
Son of ex-Catalan president arrives at prison to serve two and a half years for taking bribes and influence peddling
Oriol Pujol, the former secretary general of the CDC party, relaunched in 2016 as pro-independence PDeCAT, has begun his two and a half year prison sentence for taking bribes and influence peddling.
The son of the former Catalan president, Jordi Pujol, arrived at the Brians 2 prison, half an hour outside Barcelona, at around 4pm on Thursday.
Pujol had asked the court if he could do community service instead of serving a jail term, but his request was declined on January 9 and he was given 10 days to enter prison.
