Foreign affiliates to Social Security increase by 5% in Catalonia
Of 675,032 foreign workers, 192,132 come from the EU, while 482,900 are from non-EU countries

The number of foreign affiliates to Social Security in Catalonia has increased by 5.1% in March, compared to March 2024.
This means that the number of foreign workers is now 675,032.
Of all the residents affiliated, 532,115 were registered within the general social security system. Another 14,067 worked in the agricultural system and 24,874 in the domestic work sector, while 103,245 were registered as self-employed, and 731 worked in the maritime industry.
192,132 of the workers were registered as EU citizens, while 482,900 were from non-EU member countries.
In terms of nationality, there were 60,221 Italians among EU nationals, followed by 47,311 Romanians and 23,473 French.
Among the non-EU citizens, 79,889 came from Morocco, 36,910 from Colombia, and 34,323 from China.
According to figures from the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the most common sectors for foreign affiliates of the general social security system are the commerce, motorcycle and vehicle repair sector, with 14.74% of affiliates, and the hospitality sector, where 14.37% of affiliates were registered.
In total, 2,921,205 foreigners were registered in the Social Security system in Spain in March 2025, up 6.84% compared to March of the previous year.
