Catalonia's primary health care centers have started administering flu and Covid-19 vaccines to people over 60, those suffering from chronic health issues, and others considered at risk. Health care workers and other essential employees are also eligible to get the jab starting Monday.

"We have the dose available next to our homes, in primary health care centers, with amazing professionals, so let's take the opportunity," said Carmen Cabezas, Catalonia's Public Health Secretary, from the Ramon Turró health center in Barcelona.

For the first time, smokers and children aged between six months and five years are also eligible to get the flu vaccine.

Beginning last week, those eligible can book an appointment online, by phone, in-person, or via the La Meva Salut health app.

This year's campaign is the third in a row where both flu and Covid-19 vaccines can be administered simultaneously.
