Firefighters bring Montsant blaze under control after it burns through 110 hectares
Separate fire in north Catalonia that had cut traffic and rail links stabilized
The Fire Department declared the fire in Cabacés, in the area of Priorat, under control on Saturday evening, after it had been burning since Thursday.
Another fire in north Catalonia, which had started on Saturday and had forced traffic on the AP-7 highway and the high speed rail link to be suspended, was stabilized late on Saturday night.
Montsant fire
The fire in Cabacés, in south Catalonia, was stabilized on Friday after burning nearly 110 hectares, some of which in the Serra del Montsant Natural Park, and on Saturday was brought under control.
The fire affected an area of 106.17 hectares of forest and 1.73 hectares of agricultural land.
More than 100 firefighters and about twenty brigades worked through the night on Friday to contain the boundaries of the fire to prevent it from spreading further.
On Saturday morning and afternoon, around thirty teams and 130 personnel worked on the fire.
In the coming hours, a gradual withdrawal of water vehicles and light vehicles is expected, although some supplies will be maintained as a precaution.
Agullana fire
Firefighters in north Catalonia have stabilized the agricultural-forestry fire that started in Agullana on Saturday.
Traffic was cut off for several hours on the AP-7 and the AVE line between Figueres and the border with France as a precaution.
Motor traffic was diverted to the N-II, where alternative passage was given.
The fire has affected about 14 hectares, according to provisional data from the Rural Agents. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
