Feminist lobby formed to strengthen role of women in institutions
50a50 presented on Tuesday an all-female list of candidates for president of Barcelona Chamber of Commerce
A new lobby has been formed on Tuesday in order to strengthen the role of women in institutions and companies. The association, 50a50, also presented a list of candidates made up only of women for president at the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce in the upcoming election.
Beyond this, the feminist organization wants to create a bigger female presence in other institutions such as the port and the Fira de Barcelona (where the Mobile World Congress takes place.) The main objective 50a50 is, as the name suggests, to achieve a 50% presence of women in the top spots of institutions thus completing the fifth objective of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
Support in high places
50a50 has gained the support of the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, who said on Monday that she would be taking part in the International Women’s Day strike. Colau has also stated that she is working to increase the role of women in the board of directors at the Fira de Barcelona.
The head of the Barcelona Bar Association has exemplified Colau as a woman who has made motherhood compatible with the leadership of the city council.
For his part, the current president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Miquel Valls, highlighted that the presence of women in posts of high responsibility has been increasing.
