Catalan authorities have issued an extreme heat warning as this weekend is set to be much warmer than usual, especially on Sunday, with over 40ºC highs.

While Saturday will be particularly hot in some inland counties, temperatures on Sunday will be high across Catalonia between 12 pm and 6 pm.

It is also set to be extremely warm at night along the coast.

Civil Protection authorities recommend drinking lots of water throughout the day, avoiding direct sunlight, spending time in air-conditioned places, and limiting outdoor activity.

Catalonia is currently in the midst of a 3-year drought in which higher-than-average temperatures and lower-than-average rainfall have dried up reservoirs, harming agricultural lands and businesses

Water restrictions limiting consumption to 200 liters per person per day came into effect for the first time ever in 24 municipalities last week.
