Eleven arrested for causing €656,000 in damage to rail network
Detainees committed over 160 acts of vandalism across Catalonia
Police have arrested eleven people accused of allegedly committing 164 acts of vandalism on the railway network across Catalonia. Authorities estimate the cost of the damage to be €656,958.79.
Catalonia's Mossos d'Esquadra police, Spain's national police, and Barcelona's Guàrdia Urbana police detained the alleged perpetrators in the Catalan capital, and the Spanish cities of Málaga, Múrcia, and Vigo.
Investigations are still underway to locate and arrest others.
In the previous investigation, police arrested 25 people for vandalism between 2021 and 2022, causing €1,670,000 worth of damage.
Law enforcement agents are in constant contact with rail operators to detect new acts of vandalism.
