Dying beached shark found in Ocata, north of Barcelona
Despite attempts to return animal to sea, it passed away
A member of the maintenance team at Masnou's beaches, just north of Barcelona, found a dying beached shark in Ocata beach, as the local broadcaster Mataró TV first reported on Thursday, and was later confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN).
The local security councilor, Sílvia Folch, was jogging on the beach with a colleague when they saw the shark. They tried to return it to the water between them for an hour and a half, but the shark kept getting out of the water a few meters away.
One of the CRAM Sea Life Rescue Foundation vets recommended not trying to push the shark into the water again, as it was probably dying and had decided to remain on the beach.
When CRAM experts arrived on site, the shark had already passed away, and rural agents secured the area so people would not get close to the shark.
Members of the CRAM, rural agents, and civil protection were on site.
