Dani Alves disagrees with judge's report on alleged sexual assault case
Former FC Barcelona player currently in pre-trial detention over events in nightclub
Former FC Barcelona player Dani Alves, soon to face trial for alleged sexual assault, has stated through his lawyer Cristobal Martell that he does not agree with the report of the events that the judge presented to him on Wednesday as they do not "conform to reality".
However, Alves has not appealed the decision, in order to expedite the process and hold a trial in Barcelona as soon as possible.
Back in January, a 23-year-old woman submitted a report to the Mossos d'Esquadra police accusing the former footballer of sexual assault. The alleged incident took place in Barcelona's Sutton nightclub on the night of December 30.
The victim's version of events has been consistent since her first testimony and states that, after a night of dancing with the player in a VIP area in the nightclub, she was invited by Alves to a space she thought was a smoking area. The woman was surprised to see it was actually a small bathroom and she tried to leave. After that, Alves forced her to have sex with him.
Alves has changed his testimony three times, denying knowing the woman at first, and acknowledging consensual penetration with her in his final version.
The ex-Brazil player has been in prison since January 20 and has seen his requests to be released from preventive detention denied, as he represents a flight risk.
The 23-year-old woman's version of events has been backed up by various images from the club's security cameras, as well as the presence of Alves' DNA on her clothes and her genitalia. The injuries she suffered are also compatible with her testimony.
