Court rejects reopening John McAfee death case after body found in Catalan prison
Ruling considers "no suspicious element of criminal act" after anti-virus mogul died in 2021
Barcelona's court has rejected an appeal by anti-virus mogul John McAfee's family to reopen the death case after he was found dead in the Catalan prison of Brians 2 in June 2021, as announced on Friday.
"There is no suspicious element of a criminal act," the court ruled and continued adding that the case "is simple, and it is only part of the mourning and the terrible process of losing someone."
The ruling remembers that forensic authorities investigated the corpse and that the sentence, which the family had appealed, "was clear and not motivated by any parties."
The family did not trust the hypothesis that McAfee committed suicide in prison and asked to investigate more into their relative's death. This rejection by Barcelona's court is final.
Arrested in Barcelona
John McAfee, who was traveling with two other people to Istanbul, was taken into custody at El Prat airport in Barcelona in October 2020.
He was intercepted by Interpol agents on behalf of US authorities as he was going through border controls.
McAfee was presented with an arrest and extradition order for tax crimes.
