The Costa Brava town of Blanes has opened its doors to a Spanish Civil War raid shelter as a museum near the town's church.

This is one of the around 20 raid shelters Blanes has, which was not accessible until now. The city council has placed some information posters and, in special occasions, lights with light up the 24-meter-long raid shelter.

During the opening, the town's mayor explained that Blanes was one of the most air-bombed municipalities in the area.

The Civil War started in 1936, almost a century ago, but "there are still a lot of open wounds" due to this historic event, mayor Jordi Hernández said.

Local authorities want younger generations to learn about "our grandparents and parents' history," which is why they have prepared these information posters.

Normally, visitors will not be able to enter the raid shelter, but the posters will give enough information for them to have an idea of how life was back then.
