Cornellà council irregular contracts case filed without charges
Judge shelves investigation regarding deals for Hospitalet’s sports department
All members of the Cornellà local council investigated regarding alleged irregular contracts have walked free without any charges made.
The judge decided to fully shelve the case on Wednesday after nine people declared in July and their investigation was dropped, and four more individuals spoke with the court in early September.
The case related to alleged corruption in the sports department of L'Hospitalet council, a neighboring municipality of Cornellà, both next to Barcelona.
Back in February, police officers detained 11 individuals related to the case, while the fiscal crimes unit of the Spanish Policia Nacional raided the sports department of L'Hospitalet council building after this and detained five people. Later in the afternoon, six others were arrested in the city hall.
Detainees were released the day after, and while charges had not been dropped until this Wednesday, local authorities defended the integrity and backed the honesty of all investigated.
In a recent statement, the city council highlighted they were "full of peace" as they claimed the contracts in question had been greenlighted legally.
In fact, the council reminded that the documentation removed by police had already been handed to the judge over a year and a half ago.
