Controversy over Molotov Cocktail workshop event at Granollers Festa Major
Videos emerge on social media of children learning how to engage in riotous behavior
A workshop on 'Techniques applied in Guerilla combat' organized as part of the Granollers 'Festa Major' public street festival has caused huge controversy in the town located a short distance outside Barcelona.
The workshop, included in the official program of the Festa Major, simulated the making of Molotov Cocktails and taught participants how to throw them at police.
Another part of the activity included learning how to make a barricade with containers.
Videos have emerged on social media of minors participating in the workshop, drawing criticism from various police unions which described the acts as "deplorable."
Through a statement, the local council denounced the content of the workshop and expressed its support for the security forces.
In turn, organizers of the event regretted the interpretation of a "playful" event, assuring that "in no case" was it intended to offend the security forces or encourage violence.
The Catalan police have opened informative proceedings in court to understand exactly what happened.
Prosecutors open case
The juvenile prosecutor's office has opened a case of undetermined risk for minors who may have participated in the workshop.
Prosecutors have asked the Catalan police to identify if minors who took part in the event are in a situation of helplessness or lacking in protection.
The General Directorate of Child and Adolescent Care have also been addressed in the case to take measures if any minors are identified.
