Consternation over alleged murder of woman by partner in Salou
Police detained man over violent death at hotel
Around 50 people, including local and Catalan authorities, gathered on Monday evening to show their dismay over the alleged murder of a woman by her partner that took place in the southern coastal town of Salou.
Equality minister Tània Verge said: "Almost a week ago we were in Hospitalet de Llobregat mourning the gender-based murder of another woman, and now we are here with another case." Verge also highlighted that seven women have died this year because of gender-based violence: "Their life has been taken from them only because they were women."
On Sunday, Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police detained a man over the violent death of a woman in a hotel in the seaside town south of Tarragona. Both the victim and alleged perpetrator were European foreigners, the Catalan News Agency (ACN) was able to confirm.
At around 9.30 pm, law enforcement received an emergency call, saying a woman in the hotel was seriously injured.
Once on site, Mossos found the woman lying on the floor, with a self-injured man next to her. Emergency services unsuccessfully tried to revive the woman.
