Christmas market inspired street wins Festes de Sants decorations contest
Various streets have seen vandalism in their 'guarnits'
Barcelona's Festes de Gràcia are not the only local celebration in the Catalan capital that creates unique street decorations.
Festes de Sants is another of the celebrations that take place at the end of August in Barcelona.
From August 24 to September 1, the streets of these neighborhoods will see various concerts, cultural events, and 'guarnits' - themed decorations in the streets.
On Monday, the winners of the decorations contest were announced, naming Carrer Finlàndia in first place.
The residents of this street brought Christmas to Barcelona in August, transforming their street into a Christmas market, with reindeer and nutcrackers.
In second place was Carrer de Valladolid, where they paid a homage to women seamstresses in their decorations.
Plaça de la Farga square came third with their decorations inspired by the Amazon rainforest.
In fourth place was Carrer del Sagunt, which was themed as a time machine as they recreated their decorations from the past 30 years.
After the first night of uncovering the 'guarnits', the residents of Sants reported vandalism on the street decorations, with parts of them broken and stolen.
