The Catalan government will approve sending €800,000 of aid to UNRWA next week.

Foreign minister Meritxell Serret announced the funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees at an event at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona on Thursday.

Serret specified the exact amount for UNRWA, having already announced at the beginning of April that the Esquerra Republicana executive had increased aid to UN agencies in Palestine by 15% on last year to €1.6 million

Funds are also directed to agencies such as UNHCR and UN Women as well as UNRWA.

"Catalan solidarity is always present, whether there are budgets or not," the foreign minister said on Thursday, referring to the 2024 budget that was rejected by the Catalan Parliament and which led to President Aragonès calling a snap election for May 12.
