Catalonia sees best unemployment figures since 2007 despite slight rise in December

Last year saw a 2.8% increase in total number of contributors to social security

Unemployment in Catalonia rose in December, with 2,663 more people out of work compared to November (+0.8%).

However, 2024 closed with a total of 335,195 unemployed workers, marking the lowest year-end figure since 2007.

According to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Labour, the year-end total reflects a drop of 8,186 unemployed individuals (-2.38%) compared to December 2023.

The labour market in Catalonia saw a total of 3,790,824 contributors at the end of the year, a slight monthly decline of 0.16% (6,219 fewer workers), it is a 2.8% increase compared to the end of the previous year.

In total, the social security system added 81,016 affiliates in 2024.

Across Spain, 2024 also ended with the lowest number of unemployed people in 17 years.
