Catalonia reports another five monkeypox cases, bringing total to 14
Vall d’Hebron and Clínic prepare techniques to diagnose possible cases, other hospitals to follow
The Catalan health department has confirmed five more cases of the monkeypox virus. There are a total of 14 registered cases in the territory, the ministry reported on Friday. All of them are linked to others identified in Spain.
These are the first cases of monkeypox in the territory after the vast majority of cases in Spain have been confirmed in the Madrid region.
For privacy reasons, the health department will not release any private information regarding the patients.
The confirmation of the cases is not immediately available, as the Catalan epidemiologic surveillance network has to control some possible cases and warn Spain's Alert Coordination and Health Emergencies Center.
There, the center takes the several samples they have received and analyzes them.
However, the Catalan Vall d’Hebron and Clinic hospitals in Barcelona have already prepared the techniques to diagnose possible cases, while other health centers will follow.
The health department has even created a website to check the latest information in Catalonia regarding monkeypox cases. The web offers basic content on the disease, such as the symptoms, how it is transmitted, and what treatments it has.
