Catalonia plans to curtail gambling advertising and sponsorship
Measure part of 2024 budget bill which has not yet been presented or processed
The Catalan government wants to restrict the advertising, promotion and sponsorship of gambling companies, while also fully preventing such establishments from sponsoring sports teams, facilities and competitions in Catalonia.
The measure is part of the draft 2024 budget bill, which has yet to be presented or processed.
Three amendments to the law on gambling will be proposed.
The text aims to prohibit advertisements that promote, incite, or stimulate the practice of gambling that suggest that the game can solve personal, economic, or financial problems; that use non-inclusive and sexist language and images; or that are aimed at minors.
Gambling companies and establishments may not advertise on public roads or in means of transport if their ad infringes on any of those points.
Once this amendment comes into force, the government will develop, by decree, the specific mechanisms of advertising for gambling companies.
