Storm Jana and the recent rainfall of between 30 and 60 liters have significantly increased water levels in Catalan water reservoirs.

So much so that, for the first time since the summer of 2022, the total overall capacity of reservoirs has approached 40%, according to the latest data from the Catalan Water Agency (ACA).

Additionally, the current peak is larger than the one registered (37%) at the beginning of last summer, after a wet spring.

The increase is mainly due to the heavy rains that fell between Saturday and Monday morning. In just one week, the capacity of some reservoirs increased from 31.1% to 39.6%.

The most notable increases have been recorded in the Darnius-Boadella reservoir, located in the northern Catalan region of Alt Empordà, and the Sau reservoir, in inland Catalonia.

Darnius-Boadella's capacity has jumped from 16.8% to 30.5%, while Sau's has increased from 6.7% to 21.8%.

The five reservoirs that make up the Ter-Llobregrat system, which supplies water to 6 million people in the Barcelona metropolitan area and parts of the Girona region, have also increased, reaching nearly 41% of capacity thanks to Storm Jana.
