Catalan News podcast Filling the Sink now available on Catalunya Ràdio
Media organizations sign agreement to "make resources cost-effective" and "explain the reality of the country" to foreigners
The Catalan News podcast, Filling the Sink, is now available as part of Catalunya Ràdio's online offering, following an agreement between the broadcaster and ACN (Catalan News Agency).
The podcast, which is already on catalannews.com and major platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, will be published on the radio station's website and mobile app.
The directors of Catalunya Ràdio and ACN, Saül Gordillo and Marc Colomer, say that the move will help to "explain the reality of the country abroad and to foreigners living in Catalonia."
Catalunya Ràdio is already a leading resource for podcasts in Catalan, but Gordillo said that the addition of Filling the Sink will "strengthen the podcast content offering" from the station, as for the first time in its history it will offer content in English.
Colomer added that the collaboration also seeks to "make public resources more cost-effective" and that the two media organizations are also working together in other areas.
Catalan News, Colomer said, aims to "speak with its own voice" to an international audience and "without filters," while also addressing the need for information in English for some foreign-born residents of Catalonia.
Filling the Sink
Filling the Sink is a weekly 20-minute podcast on all things Catalan. Presented by Lorcan Doherty along with journalists from Catalan News, it launched in October last year and has 18 episodes so far, with a new one coming out every Saturday.
The podcast covers news and current affairs, such as the pandemic and politics, and lighter topics like Catalan traditions and gastronomy. It also looks at global and international issues, such as climate change, tourism and Brexit, through a Catalan lens.
The name of the podcast comes from the Catalan phrase, 'de mica en mica, s'omple la pica,' which means 'little by little, the sink fills up.'
