In the culture sector, Catalan is the primary language of only theatre and radio, while in all other areas, – television, music, concerts, books, cinema, etc. – Spanish prevails.

These conclusions are based on data collected from the 2024 Cultural Participation Survey.

The study details that the last theatrical production seen by 56% of respondents was in Catalan, and that 70% of radio listeners tune in to listen in Catalan.

At the other end of the scale, only 5% of the last video games that respondents played were in Catalan, while the percentage of last books read (26%) and films seen in the cinema (26%) in Catalan is low.

Despite the consolidation of the Internet as a second cultural use (for 87% of respondents), less than half of Internet users browse in Catalan.

Beyond media formats where Catalan is the primary language, it has a strong presence in the general consumption habits of people, including among magazine readers (where 61% read in Catalan) and newspapers (60%), and in recent consumption of television and audiovisual media (58%) and the world of entertainment (58%).
