Catalan hospital separates conjoined twins from Mauritania
Surgery took over five hours with around 20 healthcare workers taking part
One of Catalonia's most important pediatric hospitals, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, has successfully separated conjoined twins from Mauritania this Wednesday.
The surgery, which happened as planned, took over five hours and around 20 healthcare workers took part.
The two girls were born on October 8 and were united by the superior part of their abdomens, with only one umbilical cord, both weighing 5.2 kilograms.
The patients landed in Barcelona on October 27 with their parents and are currently under the care of the neonatology and surgical teams, cardiologists, and experts in nutrition and anesthesia.
They are recovering at the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, and the hospital will give more information on the patients in the upcoming days.
